Harrison L. Plunkett MD

Anesthesiologist and Pain Management Physician. As the newest member of SSI's pain management team, Dr. Plunkett applies his anesthesiology background and specialized pain fellowship training to treat patients with chronic pain conditions. His unique experience as a Navy physician adds to his skill in handling medically complex cases and understanding the importance of functional recovery.

Dr. Plunkett earned his B.S. in Health and Wellness (Biology specialization) from The Citadel in Charleston, SC in 2009. He received his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2014. After medical school, he served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy: he completed a transitional intern year at Naval Medical Center San Diego and the Undersea Medical Officer Course in Groton, CT, then served as an Undersea Medical Officer treating submarine sailors in New London. In 2019, Dr. Plunkett entered anesthesiology residency at the University of Virginia, where he was elected Chief Resident in his final year, completing his training in 2022. He then stayed at UVA to complete a fellowship in Interventional Chronic Pain Management in 2023.

Board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. (Having finished fellowship recently, he is board-eligible in Pain Medicine as well.)

Dr. Plunkett is focused on helping patients suffering from chronic pain regain their quality of life. He utilizes interventional pain techniques (such as nerve blocks, spinal injections, and neuromodulation when appropriate) alongside multidisciplinary strategies to achieve pain relief. He has a strong interest in veteran and military medicine given his service background, and he aims to bring that dedication to the Charleston community. Dr. Plunkett is enthusiastic about collaborating with SSI's experienced team to provide compassionate, state-of-the-art pain care for his patients.
